Overview

The Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center Maritime Welding Training Lab is a specialized instructional facility that supports workforce development and helps address the region’s demand for skilled maritime and shipbuilding trades. The project transformed 3,167 square feet of existing space into a purpose-built welding lab designed to provide students with hands-on training in a controlled industrial learning environment. Thompson Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, Construction Administration, and Commissioning services, integrating specialized ventilation, exhaust, electrical, and plumbing systems to accommodate welding operations. These systems support student safety, indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and the technical requirements of hands-on maritime welding education.
