Overview
The James City County Law Enforcement Center was developed to consolidate police operations and forensic services into a modern public safety campus that enhances operational efficiency, security, and investigative capabilities. The approximately 56,000-square-foot facility houses the James City County Police Department Headquarters and a dedicated Forensics Facility, bringing together administrative offices, investigative units, evidence processing areas, laboratories, training spaces, and public-facing functions within a secure and highly specialized environment. Thompson Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for the project. Building systems were designed to support the unique operational requirements of law enforcement and forensic operations, including secure spaces, evidence handling areas, specialized laboratory environments, and critical infrastructure necessary for continuous public safety operations. The completed facility improved departmental coordination, enhanced forensic capabilities, and provided James City County with a modern headquarters designed to support current and future law enforcement needs.
Challenges
