Overview

Princess Anne Middle School is a 257,784-square-foot educational facility developed for Virginia Beach City Public Schools to replace the former school with a modern, sustainability-focused learning environment. Designed to serve approximately 1,500 students, the school is organized around a protected central outdoor commons and provides flexible learning areas, athletic and performing arts facilities, and spaces that support both student and community use. Thompson Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, Construction Administration, and Commissioning services, with sustainable strategies including geothermal HVAC, solar power generation, daylighting, and rainwater collection integrated into the facility. These high-performance systems support energy efficiency, occupant comfort, environmental stewardship, and reliable long-term operation.
