Overview
Christopher Newport University’s Pope Chapel is a 10,000-square-foot interfaith facility that provides a welcoming environment for worship, reflection, meditation, ceremonies, and community gatherings. Located prominently near the entrance to campus, the chapel features the 325-seat Celebration Hall, meeting and seminar spaces, and quiet areas designed to accommodate people of diverse faiths and a variety of university activities. Thompson Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, Construction Administration, and Commissioning services, coordinating discreet building systems with the chapel’s acoustical requirements, audiovisual technology, and highly detailed Neo-Georgian architecture. The facility continues to serve as a spiritual and ceremonial gathering place for the Christopher Newport community while also supporting lectures, musical performances, weddings, and other special events.
