Overview
The Edward E. Brickell Medical Sciences Library is a 65,000-square-foot academic and research facility developed to support medical education, healthcare research, and knowledge sharing within the Eastern Virginia medical community. Designed specifically for the demands of health sciences education, the library combines extensive information resources with electronic classrooms, individual and group study environments, videoconferencing capabilities, and specialized collections, while its prominent rotunda connects the facility with the adjoining Lewis Hall. Thompson Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, Construction Administration, and Commissioning services for the project, integrating building systems capable of supporting technology-intensive learning environments and varied occupancy needs. The facility continues to provide students, faculty, clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals with flexible spaces and resources that support collaboration, evidence-based research, and medical education.
