Keith Dignan, P.E., LEED AP

Principal, Vice President

With more than 28 years of experience at Thompson Consulting Engineers, Keith Dignan has been a driving force behind the firm’s success since joining the company in 1998. As Vice President and Electrical Department Manager, Keith leads the firm’s Electrical Department while also overseeing its Construction Administration and Commissioning teams, helping ensure that projects are delivered with quality, efficiency, and technical excellence from design through completion. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electromechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Delaware. Keith is also a LEED Accredited Professional recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council and actively participates in industry organizations, including the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Virginia.

Keith brings extensive expertise in lighting design, interior and exterior power distribution, fire alarm systems, sound reinforcement systems, solar photovoltaic systems, and television distribution systems. He is highly knowledgeable in the application of the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and ADA accessibility requirements, helping clients achieve practical, code-compliant, and high-performing electrical system designs.

As a Principal of the Construction Administration and Commissioning Team, Keith oversees project operations, including billing, accounts receivable, and financial performance. He manages project initiation, facilitates communication of project scope and expectations, and coordinates with clients and staff to establish and maintain project schedules. He also prepares project fee proposals, monitors project progress, and evaluates financial performance to support the firm’s strategic objectives.

In his leadership of the Electrical Department, Keith provides technical oversight for all aspects of electrical design and serves as a key resource for quality assurance reviews. He works closely with engineering staff to refine electrical specifications, maintain design standards, and promote innovative solutions that reflect Thompson’s commitment to safety, quality, and engineering excellence. His mentorship and guidance have been instrumental in the development of the firm’s next generation of electrical engineers.

Keith also serves as Principal-in-Charge, Project Manager, and Electrical Engineer on many of the firm’s projects while supporting marketing and business development initiatives. He has completed Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) training and is knowledgeable in the standards and procedures of the Division of Engineering and Buildings (DEB). Through strong client relationships, technical leadership, and active involvement in project interviews and business development efforts, he continues to contribute to the firm’s growth and long-term success.
