Principal, President
Kenzie Cambar serves as Principal and President of Thompson Consulting Engineers, where he helps guide the firm’s strategic direction, technical standards, and continued commitment to engineering excellence. Since joining the firm in 1989, Kenzie has been a driving force behind Thompson’s electrical engineering leadership, quality control practices, and culture of mentorship. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University, is a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia, and is a LEED Accredited Professional.
With more than three decades of electrical engineering experience, Kenzie brings extensive expertise in power distribution, emergency power and generator systems, lightning protection, interior and exterior lighting and controls, energy calculations, photovoltaic solar design, and low-voltage systems, including voice/data, public address, fire alarm, and security systems. His depth of technical knowledge supports high-performing, reliable, and code-compliant electrical system designs across a wide range of project types.
As Thompson’s Electrical Quality Control Agent, Kenzie ensures that electrical drawings and specifications meet the firm’s rigorous standards for precision, safety, coordination, and innovation. He develops and maintains the firm’s electrical design standards and master specifications, helping ensure consistency, quality, and technical excellence across all projects.
As President, Kenzie works closely with the firm’s Principals and leadership team to support project planning, client engagement, fee development, and strategic decision-making. He is experienced in project management from conceptual design through construction services and collaborates with project teams to define scopes of work, support timely delivery, and maintain Thompson’s high standards for client service.
Kenzie also manages the firm’s Electrical Department, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and staff development support for the next generation of electrical engineers. In addition, he oversees the firm’s information technology resources, helping maintain optimized hardware and software systems that support efficient, secure, and reliable firmwide operations.
