Overview
Norfolk State University’s Residential Complex is a 193,424-square-foot on-campus housing community developed to expand residential capacity and strengthen student life as the University continues to grow. The four-story facility provides 740 beds within North and South residence halls connected by a central two-story amenity space featuring group study areas, fitness and movement studios, community kitchens, a theater, multipurpose spaces, and other environments designed to encourage interaction and community among residents. Thompson Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, Construction Administration, and Commissioning services for the project, integrating building systems capable of supporting the continuous demands of a high-density residential environment. These systems support occupant comfort, safety, energy efficiency, and reliable long-term operation while helping create a residential experience that extends student engagement beyond the classroom.
