Overview

The Suffolk Municipal Center and E-911 Call Center is a 115,000-square-foot civic and emergency communications facility that consolidates municipal departments and critical public safety functions within a centralized location serving the Suffolk community. Designed as a “one-stop-shop” for City services, the two-story facility houses the E-911 Call Center, City Council Chamber, City Administration, public meeting and lobby spaces, and numerous municipal departments, while its emergency communications center provides the technology and infrastructure necessary for continuous response operations. Thompson Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, Construction Administration, and Commissioning services for the Design-Build project, integrating resilient building systems with energy-efficient strategies supporting the facility’s LEED-focused design. These systems provide the reliability, environmental control, and operational resilience required by a 24/7 emergency communications center while supporting comfortable, efficient daily operations throughout the municipal offices.

Challenges
